Signed Cavalier Corrado. The brothers of Joseph returning from Dothan are presenting to their father Jacob the coat of Joseph clotted with blood, "And they took Joseph's coat and killed a kid of the goats and dipped the coat in the blood." "And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father: and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son's or no." Gen. chap. xxxvii, verse 31-32. The astonishment, surprise, and affliction of a tender father who finds himself wounded to his inmost heart is powerfully shown, his tenderness for his lost son is expressed on his countenance, while the feelings of a father towards his other children prevent his wrath, and leaves nothing but sadness and surprise. The feigned grief of the children is depicted with a masterly hand, and the different expressions of sorrow of all the group show plainly the author whose signature it bears. [P. 4.]
