After having taken the Tuileries, the people collected the sacred vessels which they had found in the chapel of the Chateau, and carried them religiously to the Church of St. Roch. When this procession was passing, a pupil of the Ecole Polytechnique, uncovering his head before an image of Christ on the Cross, exclaimed, "Behold the Master of us all% My friends, to him belongs all our devotion." These sketches, executed in haste, possess the principal merit of representing those scenes such as they actually were--the artist himself having been one of the combattants [sic].
