By P. Battoni, an eminent historical and portrait painter of the Florentine School, born in 1702, and died in 1787. His works are in much estimation, and are well-known throughout Europe; he procured by them both fame and riches; the emperor Joseph presented him with a patent of nobility. This is the original picture from which the beautiful engraving of Wille was executed, a copy of which is in the collection. [P. 3; exhibited under heading: "Oil Paintings."]
