Educational Notes:
It looks like it would take forever to plow a field with this machine. However, the invention of the horse-drawn reaper was actually much faster than working in the fields with a sickle by hand. The reaper is a machine invented by Cyrus McCormick in the mid-1800s. The machine was used to cut fields of wheat and other small grains. The reaper was pulled by a horse, had a cutter bar that cut the wheat from the ground, and a main wheel that spun the grain. The horse-drawn reaper was a big help on the farm in the 1900s and helped farmers save time during harvest season.
