This postcard is from the "A Man Was Lynched Yesterday" project, by multi-media artist and 2021 Montgomery County Youth Poet Laureate Sasa Aakil. Aakil created the postcards, featuring the 100-year-old civil rights saying "A Man Was Lynched Yesterday," to protest the death of George Floyd at the hands of police, and to advocate for change. The card is unused.
The postcards appear in different colors, and each color is intended for a different type of recipient. This postcard with red lettering is meant to be sent to politicians, to demand that the killers of George Floyd be held responsible for their actions. Postcards with blue lettering are meant to be sent to police departments and oversight boards, to call for just treatment by police of protesters during the George Floyd protests. Postcards with yellow lettering are meant to be sent to friends and family, to encourage them to join in the fight to protect Black lives.
