Description:
On January 22, 2010, in Park City, Utah, the Postal Service issued a 44-cent, Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games commemorative stamp in a pressure-sensitive adhesive pane of twenty stamps. Howard E. Paine of Delaplane, Virginia, designed the stamp.
This stamp, featuring an illustration of a snowboarder, continues the Postal Services' tradition of honoring the spirit of athleticism and international unity inspired by the Olympic Games. The stamp was issued to coincide with the XXI Olympic Winter Games, which were held February 12-28, 2010, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Illustrator Steven McCracken of Winchester, Virginia, captured the thrill of one Olympic sport by portraying an airborne snowboarder against the backdrop of a snow-capped mountain.
Avery Dennison printed 45 million stamps using the gravure process.
