In Portland, Oregon, on January 14, 2009, the US Postal Service issued the 42-cent Oregon Statehood commemorative stamp in a pressure-sensitive adhesive pane of twenty stamps. With the issuance of this stamp, the USPS commemorated the sesquicentennial of Oregon's statehood. Derry Noyes, Washington, DC, designed the stamp.
Oregon was officially welcomed as the Union's thirty-third state on February 14, 1859. Oregon now boasts a diverse population, an active and innovative urban scene, and some of the most beautiful and fertile landscapes in the country. Artist Gregory Manchess, a resident of Beaverton, Oregon, was inspired by his own experiences along the Pacific to create stamp's featured painting.
Banknote Corporation of America/SSP, Browns Summit, North Carolina, printed 30 million stamps in the offset process with microprinting "USPS."
