On June 19, 2008, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Postal Service issued a 42-cent Olympic Games commemorative stamp in a pressure-sensitive adhesive pane of twenty stamps. Clarence Lee of Honolulu, Hawaii, designed the stamps.
With the issuance of this stamp, the Postal Service continued its tradition of honoring the spirit of athleticism and international unity inspired by the Olympic Games. The stamp was issued to coincide with the games of the XXIX Olympiad, held from August 8 until August 24, 2008, in Beijing, China.
Forty million stamps were printed in the offset process with microprinting "USPS" by Sennett Security Products/Banknote Corporation of America, Inc. (SSP/BCA), Browns Summit, North Carolina.
