On February 27, 1973, Vatican City issued three stamps to commemorate the Fortieth International Eucharistic Congress held in Melbourne, Australia, from February 18 to 27, 1973.
The 25-lire stamp, designed by Peter Blizzard, bears a modern symbol of the Eucharist. The restored Pieta of Michelangelo, which was put back on public display around the time of the issue, appears on the 75-lire stamp. An image of the Cathedral of Melbourne, Australia, appears on the 300-lire stamp.
The stamps were perforated 13 1/4 x 14. The paper is not watermarked. The series numbers 1,350,000.
