On November 8, 1960, Vatican City released its 10-value set to publicize the Seven Corporal Works of Mercy.
The stamps, designed by Andreina Grassellini, depict details from a frieze in the Ospedale del Ceppo in Pistoia, Italy. The frieze, created in terracotta by Giovanni della Robbia, represents the Seven Corporal Works of Mercy.
The 10-lire stamp depicts, giving drink to the thirsty. From the center of the relief is seen a Dominican dispensing water to the thirsty. Six figures to the right and six figures to the left are not seen.
The stamps were printed at the Italian State Printing Office, Rome, by the photogravure method from plates containing forty subjects per pane (5 x 8) arranged in horizontal format.
