Description:
"Long May It Wave
The Star-Spangled Banner
O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O, say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?"
Francis Scott Key's lyrics and the American flag are the centerpiece for this thermographed cachet cover postmarked Buffalo, New York, July 13, 1943. A two-cent United States Scott 907 is canceled by the familiar boxed slogan Buy War Savings Bonds and Stamps. Walter G. Crosby of San Pedro, California, published the cachet.
