Description:
The Postal Service issued a 34-cent Kwanzaa stamp in New York, New York, on October 21, 2001, which went on sale nationwide October 22, 2001. The stamp, designed and illustrated by Synthia Saint James of Los Angeles, California, was produced in a self-adhesive pane of twenty.
The stamp, which was reissued with a new denomination, was first issued in 1997 as part of the Holiday Celebrations Series. This special stamp features the seven symbols that are used to celebrate the seven principles that are the foundation of Kwanzaa.
Avery Dennison (AVR) printed 40 million stamps in the gravure process.
