This is an irradiated first page of letter enclosed in cover 2002.2003.6.1.
Federal mail delivered to the National Postal Museum is decontaminated at the irradiation facility run by Titan Industries in Lima, Ohio.
The practice of irradiating mail was initiated for all Washington, D.C. Federal offices in October of 2001, following incidences of anthrax-contaminated mail being received by the US Federal Government, American Media Inc., the National Broadcast Company (NBC), and the American Broadcast Company (CBS).
