The Postal Service issued a 33-cent Library of Congress commemorative stamp in Washington, DC, on April 24, 2000.
Established by an act of Congress on April 24, 1800, the Library of Congress marked its bicentennial with a national celebration of all libraries. The stamp, designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland, based on a 1980 photograph by Michael Freeman of London, England, went on sale nationwide April 25, 2000.
The stamp features an image of the interior dome and several of the arched windows in the main reading room in the Thomas Jefferson Building.
