This mint object is part of the third and last official set of twelve domestic-size postal cards printed as an official souvenir of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, Illinois. The earlier official sets consisted of ten designs illustrating the various exposition buildings and the U.S. Naval Exhibit. This federal postal card depicting the Government Building was one of those. Two other designs -- Fine Art and Machinery Buildings -- were added to make this final set.
The collection consists of the twelve-card set and a souvenir wrapper original to the earlier issued ten-card set. A larger history of the Columbian Exposition postal cards can be found in the first record of the series.
