Description:
This hat is size 7 1/8. A black elastic band spans the base and a narrower leather piping encircles the top rim of the blue-gray cap. Two brass buttons depicting a letter carrier, which were introduced in 1893, are secured on either side of the black patent leather bill to hold a black braid above the bill. The attached elliptical-shaped, metal badge number 322, has an 1888 patent date. Service badges were redesigned in 1922 to include an eagle atop the oval.
