Description:
14-cent postal card depicting Timberline Lodge. Printed on the sheet-fed, high speed, Roland Man 800, five-color, offset press. Designed by Walter DuBois Richard. UPSS S136.
Timberline Lodge, designed to celebrate the magnificence of Mt. Hood, serves as one of the most popular vacation resorts in the United States, attracting mountain climbers and skiers from around the world.
But, during its construction, Timberline Lodge provided more than an opportunity to work for a people plagued by the most devastating event in their history - the Great Depression. It gave men and women a sense of pride and purpose and put a new hope into many hearts.
Today, this National Historic Landmark represents the pride and purpose of a generation born of their individual and collective ingenuity and determination. Pounded year after year by 100-mile-per-hour winds, embraced by 30-foot snow drifts, the Lodge stands as a testament to the spirit and skill of its designers, builders and artists.
