Postal Service customers long have indicated how much they enjoy being able to proclaim their patriotism and love of country by using stamps and stationery which depict the U. S. Flag. And since 1963, the Postal Service has responded by making such designs continuously available.
The U. S. Flag first appeared on an American postage stamp in 1869, and since then has been a major or significant design element on more than 40 stamp and stationery issues. The U. S. Flag postal card is the first piece of stationery to be devoted solely to the Stars and Stripes. As a regular or definitive item, it is designed for the widest possible use.
