This Prominent Americans Issue stamp depicts Henry Ford, an American industrialist. Following a machinist apprenticeship, Ford found work at the Westinghouse Electric Corporation servicing steam engines. He was later hired as an engineer at the Edison Illuminating Company. After meeting Thomas Edison and other influential businessmen, Ford launched the Ford Motor Company in 1903. Ford developed and manufactured the first affordable automobile, the 1909 Model T, which is also depicted on this stamp.
