Description:
This Prominent Americans Issue stamp depicts Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. Jefferson is one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was born in the Colony of Virginia in 1743. He served as a delegate to the Second Constitutional Congress and was selected to draft the Declaration of Independence, a resolution that declared the United States’ independence from Great Britain. He serves as Minister to France and Secretary of State before being elected President of the United States in 1800. Following his Presidency, he founded the University of Virginia. He died at his estate Monticello, near Charlottesville, Virginia.
