Description:
This Oregon Territory Issue commemorates the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Oregon Territory. The Oregon Territory was organized in 1848; the land encompassed an area that included the current states of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, as well as parts of Wyoming and Montana. The stamp depicts portraits of John McLoughlin, former employee of the Columbia Fur District of the Hudson's Bay Company and owner of a general store at the last stop of the Oregon Trail, and Jason Lee, a Canadian missionary and pioneer, as well as an image of a wagon being pulled by oxen on the Oregon Trail.
