Description:
This envelope originated from the Paris office at Rue des Vlles Haudrtes on October 10, 1870, (third collection) and was prepaid 20 centimes for the French internal letter rate to Pau, “Par Ballon Monté.”
It is impossible to determine with certainty which balloon carried this letter out of Paris, but with a Pau arrival date of October 19, 1870, and the absence of any other transit markings, it is likely that the Jules Favre No. 1 or the Jean Bart No. 2 provided the aerial transit.
