Born Brooklyn, New York
When President Bill Clinton nominated Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the Supreme Court in 1993, she had already made history. In the 1970s, she was the litigator for Women’s Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union. Having argued and won five of six Supreme Court cases on sex discrimination, she became the legal architect of the modern U.S. women’s rights movement.
Ginsburg served on the Supreme Court for twenty-seven years (1993–2020). Initially a moderate, in her last decade of life, she came to lead the liberal block.
