Anchor Cove Marina, Washington, United States, North America, North Pacific Ocean
Collection Date:
5 Apr 2019
Notes:
Collection data was inconsistent between sources (specimen labels, BOLD student portal, and a google sheet shared by the PI, James Dimond). When asked for clarification, James indicated that the google sheet should be most reliable, so the EMu and GEOME collection event records reflect that source. The data from BOLD and the specimen labels are as follows: BOLD: Site: Anchor Cove Marina, Anacortes Wa; Date: 4/5/2019; Lat/long: 48.5185, -122.622; Depth (m): 0.5; Collectors: WWU ESCI 426 Spring 2019 Label: Site: Anchor Cove Marina, Anacortes Wa; Date: 4/5/2019; Lat/long: null; Depth(m): null; Collectors: null
Specimens from UWW were collected and fixed in 10% formalin in April/May 2019. They were shipped to Smithsonian in May 2019 and presumably transferred out of falcon tubes into archival glassware at that time. They were not cataloged until December 2019. At some point, a fluid change was clearly performed on 45 out of the 85 specimens. Upon return to the office after the COVID-19 Pandemic in March/April 2022, Mark found these specimens in the BOEM office. Roughly half of the collection was found still in formalin, while this specimen was among the other half which were topped off and, as best we can tell, in pure 70% ethanol. I was not able to reconstruct who performed the fluid change, when, and what process they used, but in the absence of information we can hope and assume it was done properly.
