Notes:
Light brown plastic cast cranium of Kabwe 1, also known as "Rhodesian Man," from the species Homo heidelbergensis. This species was once assigned as the type specimen for Homo rhodesiensis, although researchers now commonly attribute it to Homo heidelbergensis. This skull is one of the oldest known to have tooth cavities. They occur in 10 of the upper teeth. The individual may have died from an infection related to dental disease or from a chronic ear infection. The cranium is mostly complete, however, missing pieces are indicated in black. Kabwe 1 is between 300,000 and 125,000 years old.
