There is a letter from Marion Mix to Soderstrom, dated June 18th, 1974. It is unclear if this is the exact date of collection, so a general 1974 was used in the collection event. Marion states "I am taking the liberty of sending you one final specimen of our bamboo, since it is interesting to me as two watch it struggle for existence!" It is signed Marion Mix P.O. Box 295 Elk Grove, CA 95624 Elk Grove, CA is the locality used for the collection event. The information in the letter also states that "Never before has new growth been as heavy from the roots and now the multiple branching is entirely new to our observation- heretofore but one sprout appears and has never branched out as these shoots seem to be doing all over the patch."
