Wool and cotton blanket, aniline and natural dyes. Weft-faced tapestry weave. Average count: parched. There are small woven borders top and bottom, and white/burgundy triangles on the side, with bands of different patterns in the interior. The interior colors are burgundy, red-violet and white. The pattern bands are of rows of rounded and pointed rosettes, and chevrons. The blanket has a red cotton tape border sewn on.
"[An]…unused blanket collected from Isabel Ascate Polo in La Yeguanda in 2004 shows one of the most important motifs to survive since Inca times when the blanket area formed part of the royal grazing lands for the Inca's heard of camelids and a center for textile manufacture including wearing blankets and bands worn around the head and waist. The blanket … is well made. The yarns are spun tight. The tapestry weave is woven tight. The ribete has been firmly secured to the blanket's edges. The [kengo clavel] term is used to loosely to represent a group of designs all pertaining to variations of the of the sara design which became modified over time. The blanket was collected in 2004 and was new and relatively unused at the time." There is no fraying. There is no insect damage. There is no dye running. The blanket is negative to light test and demonstrates good weight. The colors are vibrant. The nap is raised, i.e. parched. The general count couldn't be determined.
