Notes:
Large basketry mat, made of double tofua pandanus leaves. Woven in oblique plain weave. Natural color, 3 cm wide brown border stripe, about 6 cm in from the edges. Edges all trimmed with fringe made of bright, multi-colored acrylic yarn. Adrienne Kaeppler, Curator of Oceania Ethnology and the collector of this mat, said (in 2007) that the yarn edging was fashionable at the time, and is still used.
