Rolled leather scroll in two-piece cylindrical leather case. Scroll is painted with symbols, figure, and text. According to the donor, this is "believed to be a series of prayers for relief from a variety of ailments, woes, and miseries, and presumably was written by a Coptic priest on behalf of an illiterate person, probably a woman... [in] either Amharic or the ancient Coptic language, Ge'ez." Scroll is stiff, and should be unrolled only with the assistance of a conservator.
