Original Catalog Number: 2718-E Style: Tapestry, Wrapped warps Twist: Z Element: Fragments Shape/form: Irregular Condition: Mechanical Manufacturing Notes: Consists of fine yarns, patterns outlined in v dark brown twining. Included w/larger bundles are some frags of feather wrapped stuff. Residue: Small bits of calcareous especially on largest fragment. Use Trace: Bundled, most warps are missing from the tapestry. Comments: 8 patches of cloth and 1 envelope w/ sample are in this lg. box. 1 frag has been unfurled and spread out on rt side of box. on left side is a "large center mass" - in the words of Joan Gardner (conservator). her notes continue: large fabric mass partially unfolded. The NSF grant ended before it could be finished. At the time it was stored on plastic and treated w/ 1-5% glycerine in dist water. Now, as a result of further conservation efforts of Lynn Arden, these are stroed in a glass topped Riker mount on smooth fabric. The box incudes the fiber sample. Unfolded bit has a design in reddish and lighter browns w/ outlining in black. This piece is attached by some wefts to another bundle (counted separately in lot count). Part 5 of 14
