Notes:
Basket with leather bottom. Sides made of widely-spaced reeds (or wooden sticks), woven together at the base with strips of leather dyed red, brown, black, green, and white. Top edge / rim bound with wide strip of leather. Very long leather fringe attached to bottom and sides.
Donor's notes describe this as a "Beriberi wedding basket…with long leather fringe completely around it (to hide the face)." She purchased it in the Sokoto market in 1974.
