Notes:
Watercolor on white silk, late 19th century. Full length figure of a woman walking under an umbrella. Use of the scattered white dots gives the illusion of snow. Illustrated are: winter headgear called "go koso zukin" (lit. high priest's headdress) used by women as head and neck cover in Northern Japan; the "geta" or clogs with toe caps; "uchikake" (long overcoat for women); and fabric colors and design patterns commonly associated with outdoor winter costume for women.
