Notes:
Interlaced cotton band tied to form a circle. Long tails formed by end of cotton. 6 macaw feathers and 4 parrot feathers are attached to front of band with red thread. Dr. Newton says, "Apinaye Style Headdress" obtained from Pulhudn, a 34 y/o male. Made by Hukula did the spinning; Podwu made the band, Pulhudn did the featherwork. Unused. Pulhudn says he saw bands like this in the Apinaye in Goias. He apologizes for having no feather for putting on the side of the band. Headdress called He?krunchu. Band called katsuthudu. Round braid for ties kanukohe. cord tail, hapci. beads: rubber/plastic tubular beads. Called a pinhukte [in Portuguese called borracha ("rubber")] the band is 2z cotton, interlaced; 4 strand round braid in tail. Feathers: Macaw, parrot attached with red commerical thread. Price paid: 5 crn. Associated specimens: an headdress collected in 1968 from the Apinaye waas among artifacts that were given to the Museu Goeldi.
Scarlet Macaw, Ara macao (6 blue wing feathers); Yellow-headed Parrot, Amazona ochrocephala (2 multicolor feathers); Orange-winged Parrot, Amazona amazonica (2 red/grn/blu/blk flight feathers).
