10 long (8 scarlet, 2 hyacinth) Macaw tail feathers, fastened to 2 cotton strings which tie into wearer's hair. One end of one string has bark fiber tied to it. One feather has long shaft wrapping. From village of Governador, from the Jean Carter Lave collection, August 1964. Dr. Newton says this is an occipital macaw Pukobye headdress. Base is 2z and 2s cotton cordage, wrapped, braided. Macaw tail feathers and small black feathers.
Hyacinth Macaw, Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus (2 blue tail feathers); Red-and-Green Macaw, Ara chloroptera (sev red/bl tip tail fthrs); Scarlet Macaw, Ara macao (1, poss 2 red tail); undetermined bird, unknown (3 black/irridescent body feathers).
