Notes:
From card: "These are used sparingly in decoration of Karok basketry."
In Harrington, J. Peabody. (1932). Tobacco among the Karuk Indians of California. Washington: U.S. Govt. Print. Off.. (BAE Bulletin 94), Harrington includes an extensive section on basket making based on information provided by Phoebe Maddux, including illustrations of the materials used to make the baskets. The Harrington collection also includes baskets made by Maddux for John Peabody Harrington. It is logical to assume therefore that some materials in E411559 - E411574 may have been provided by Phoebe Maddux?
