According to the list prepared during cataloging: "Medicine man's drum (397807)...The spread winged red wing blackbird was painted on the front by the original owner - the Cheyenne medicine man 'Woman's Heart,' from whom it had been acquired just after he had treated a Cheyenne woman, 'Night Killer.' The recipient: George Bent presented it to Bart Butler, 1915, and furnished the details here given. Woman's Hearts' original name was "Red Winged Blackbird,' given him by his father Black Shield, but after he was adult he gave it away to a relative and took the name Woman's Heart of a famous Kiowa chief and warrior...."
