From card: "Catlinite calumet pipe bowl with thick stem of same material and short wooden mouthpiece. Decorated with incised geometric scale designs, also floral, and discoidal patterns in relief. Bowl plain. Originally obtained from the Blackfeet in 1893 by Chas. A. Maxwell, father of donor's husband, Clifford D. Maxwell, in appreciation of his work in connection with the obtaining of a certain treaty, at which occasion each of the assembled Blackfeet smoked the pipe."
