From card: "Red lacquer. 'Wooden, red lacquered clogs with bells attached underneath. The surface which touches the foot is covered with straw matting, and the thongs are made of red silk brocade and velvet. Used by small girls for special occasions. The inscription in Japanese scribbled underneath the clogs reads: iihansu, probably a transliteration of [the name] Evans, the collector. CSH 5-6-85."
