From card: "The stem is rectangular shape. It has etched decorations on the four sides. Two arrows and a series of leaf(?) designs on the faces of the sides. The bowl is carved in the shape of a dog's head; the bowl stem has a bear(?) carved on it. Pipe bowl Illus.: Ewers, John C. Plains Indian Sculpture; Fig. 33, pg. 63. Identified there as dog head and bear pipe, Santee Sioux, 1890 - 1920."
