From card: ""Birchbark, woodsplints, sweetgrass, aniline dye, deerhide. Lidded birchbark container, trapezoidal form. Rectangular base; bark cut & folded at sides, sewn with woodsplints dyed burgundy, over facings of single woodsplint lashed together with woodsplint lengths. Exterior incised with crosshatching, floral motifs, geometric designs, realistic pictures of persons, animals, wigwam. One long side shows wigwam, child, woman, fire with fettle, man in feather headdress with raised tomahawk, menaced by a large bear. The first short side features an owl and a muskrat (?), the second short side a porcupine and a raccoon (?). Reverse long side has two manned canoes chasing a deer in the water. The lid is rectangular with rounded corners, backed with a second sheet of bark, edged with sweetgrass, & sewn with burgundy splints. The underside has a recessed foot, which slots into the container mouth. Lid is incised with two rabbits smoking pipes, and a border of geometric motifs. A carrying strap of deerhide, with the fur still on, attaches at either side.""
