MAT MADE OF SIMPLE CHECKERWORK PLAITING, USING UNDYED PANDANUS STRIPS. THE BORDERS ALONG TWO SIDES ARE FINISHED WITH BRAIDED EDGES AND A 4.5 CM. TWILLED BORDER.
Peale catalogue identifies # 1824 - 1840 as "Mats made of cocoa palm leaves, used for covering floors; the finer ones are made of pandanus leaves, and are used for sleeping on."
