From card: "Scabbard wood, covered with shark skin. Mounted in iron and silver. Illus. in USNM AR, 1893; Pl. 22, fig. 3; p. 710. Duplicate number." From old exhibit label with card: "Sword - Blade, straight, of uniform width and damascened; point, diagonal. Hilt, covered with shagreen, and in the iron pommel wires of brass and copper have been inlaid. Scabbard, of wood, overlaid with shagreen. Plain bands of silver extend half its length. The upper half of the scabbard is covered with red cloth; a strap fastened near the hilt passes around the wearer's waist. In Tibet, the sword is commonly worn in front. Poyul, Southern Tibet. Collected by W. W. Rockhill."
