Accession Date:
25 Jun 1886
Notes:
From card: "A band made of grass twine. One half of the band is a rope, the twine of which it is made gradually spreading out, thus making the other side wide and flat. The pad is lined with leather. The California Indians are accustomed to secure their burdens upon their backs by means of a rope or strap extending around the forehead. Head pads are used to relieve the forehead from pressure. Illus. in USNM AR 1894; fig. 147; p. 457".
