Style: Craig C Raw Material 2: Busycon sinistrum Element: Body portion Alteration: Weathered Manufacturing Notes: Well colored design Surface Modification: Incised Symbols: Snake and talons, dotted circles, chevrons, bead grids Residue: Brown stain in patches on outer. Use Trace: Worm damage, right side deteriorated. Apex and distal portion missing. Inner well scoured. Comments: Very similar to the other w/bird/talon motif in the Craig C school. Snake bounded by bands of 2 dotted circles alternating w/ 4 || lines. 1 talon point up from distal tip, min. 2 extend up and down above snake body. Snakes eye are connected in modified raccoon mask.
Another fragment from this shell has been attached to A448880-2 and the number A4488784 has been crossed out and A448819 has been written on this portion of the shell. A448784-0 is listed in Phillips and Brown for plate 11, the shell listed attached to A448880-2 is A448784 and this number is still visible on the portion of the shell that also reads A448819.
