From NMNH Exhibit Hall "Eternal Life in Ancient Egypt" label for this artifact, 2011: Amulets were tucked into the mummy's wraps—they are believed to ward off evil and bring good luck. Each type was positioned according to instructions in the Egyptian Book of the Dead. Udjat, or Eye of Horus amulet; endowed the mummy with health, and enabled it to transform to a living being.
