Carved wooden face which is thick, with 4 grooves on the sides. The eyes are up at the top of the head; the mouth is turned down. Two grooves on chin. Deeply carved groove on reverse with a sticker which says 968 on it. There is a metal staple or two on the top reverse.
From donor (about whole set of masks, catalog numbers 436281 through 436887): Miniature Masks, predominantly Dan and Bassa, Liberia. Wood. All collected in Liberia, ca 1970, by Blake Robinson; vetted by William Siegmann, the foremost expert on Liberian art; some vetting numbers remain on back. Each with much use evident in wear and patina.
