Notes:
Guero (the rainbow serpent) vessel, a coiled footed jar with mouth slightly smaller than shoulders, painted white, with incised linear decorations at top and bottom, painted blue. There is also an incised linear tree-like shape, painted blue, on one side. The lid is painted white with incised linear twig-shaped lines painted blue. The lid has a large knob, pinched on four sides and painted with an X in blue on the top. Commissioned by Michael Mason from Pedro Abreu, a well known priest in Cuba, for a temporary exhibit "Rhythms of Identity", at the Smithsonian Latino Center in 2000. The jar was on exhibit documenting the Santeria practices specific to the Arará culture in Cuba. It was paired on exhibit with a necklace (E436201).
