L-1296 (Keyser Chert):
Keyser Chert, also known as Bedford, Bedford County, or Tipton, is a light gray, dark gray, bluish gray, or black chert. It can also be medium gray or dense black with this white veins of quartz. When weathered it has a light brown patina. It has a smooth to glossy texture. Deposits include bedded. It may have this white veins of quartz.
Geology remarks: Epoch- Silurian, Series- Upper Silurian into Lower Devonian, Form- Keyser
Location remarks: Hyndman, Bedford County, PA; Tipton, Centre County, PA; Abandoned quarry in Everett, PA.
Archaeology remarks: Used extensively in Bedford and Blair Counties, PA.
