L-450 (Normanskill Chert): Direct collection from outcrop. Provenience includes a prehistoric quarry. Not a collection from archaeological context. Collection includes raw material, outer surface, and naturally-weathered specimens.
L-450 (Normanskill Chert)
Normanskill Chert is also known as Coxsackie, Deepkill, Flately Brook Flint, Hudson, River, Mt. Merino, Pleasantdale, or Pleasantville. It is a greenish, shades of green to opaque black chert. When weathered it becomes white to light gray. It may have graptolite inclusions. It has a medium to very fine grain texture. Deposits include tabular and bedded.
