L-1147 (Lafayette Chert)
(Information obtained from Citronelle Type Sheet) Citronelle Chert is also known as Bluff, Citronell, Citronella, Drift, Grover, Lafayette, Lagrange, Mounds, Mounds Gravel, Pickwick Gravel, Orange, Orange Sand, Upland. It may be various rock types, e.g.: basalt, greenstone, novaculite, quartzite, rhyolite and taconite. It is a pale cream novaculite, black, white quartzite, or pink quartzite. When heat-treated it becomes various colors depending on the lithic type; cherts becoming red, pink, orange, or yellow. When weathered it becomes various colors depending on the lithic type. Inclusions vary, depending on lithic type. Texture is usually smooth but also varies depending on lithic type.
